| | 1st ever "Edward Dickinson Baker Day" to be celebrated on Friday, Feb 24 | | Description: | Oregon United States Senator and Civil War hero Colonel Edward Dickinson Baker is being honored with the launching of "Edward Dickinson Baker Day" on the 201st anniversary of his birth with two separate commemorations taking place on Friday, February 24, 2012 in Salem.The first Salem event will be taking place at the State Capitol and will feature a short introduction and recap of the life and Civil War era achievements of Baker, followed by the recreation of a "Civil War 150th Anniversary Presenting of the Colors" by the uniformed reserve unit of the Sons of Union Veterans of Oregon. Location: Senate chambers at 10:00am. On that same afternoon starting at 12:30pm, volunteers from the Oregon Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission will lead free guided tours of the Oregon Medal of Honor memorial that will take place at the granite memorial pillars installed on the Capitol grounds.
